Sergeant James Walsh

Norwalk Police Officer, Seargent James Walsh

Senator Lieberman is proud to honor Norwalk Police Sergeant James Walsh as a Joe's Hero. Senator Lieberman recognizes Sgt. Walsh's act of courage, stating that "Sgt. Walsh performed a remarkably courageous act under very, very threatening circumstances. He came into a potentially deadly, explosive situation, put his own life at risk, and prevented further violence from occurring."

Sergeant James Walsh was honored by the Norwalk Police Department as their Officer of the Month for August of 2005, for his actions resolving a potentially deadly altercation on the morning of August 5, 2005. That morning while on routine duty, Sgt. Walsh came upon a shooting incident on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk. Amongst a large crowd and without waiting for the arrival of backup officers, Sgt. Walsh immediately identified and isolated the shooter. Sgt. Walsh engaged the shooter and successfully stopped his potentially deadly assault on a victim already suffering a gunshot wound. After deescalating the violence, he then administered aid to the gunshot victim.
