Environment
Senator Lieberman's Constituent Service Center regularly receives the following questions regarding the environment. If your question is not answered here, please send an email so that his staff may address your concern.
- Where can I go to find out more information about environmental regulations, programs, and issues affecting my community?
- I have concerns about the environmental impact a certain project will have on my state, town, or a particular waterway. Whom can I contact to express my concerns?
- I have an environmental problem or concern that I would like Senator Lieberman's assistance. What information do I need to provide to the Constituent Service Center to assist me?
The two best sources of information on the environment are the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Connecticut's Department of Environmental Protection. These two websites contain a wealth of information about the environment, natural resources, environmental laws and regulations, as well as environmental programs that are administered by the State and Federal governments.
Different types of projects have specific environmental permit requirements. Some projects require permits from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, or the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Other types of projects may only require approval from a local environmental authority such as an Inland Wetlands Commission. It is best to try to determine which agency or agencies have jurisdiction over the environmental permits required for the specific project you are concerned about and then contact that agency directly. If you cannot determine which agency is responsible for the environmental aspects of a project, please feel free to contact Senator Lieberman's State Office in Hartford for further assistance.
Please send a detailed letter or send us an email. Be sure to provide:
1. Description of the environmental problem
2. Full name
3. Address
4. Daytime phone number
5. Names and contact information of any individuals in federal agencies you have been in contact with regarding this case
Please be sure to indicate in your letter or e-mail that Senator Lieberman's office is authorized to work on your behalf in this matter. A staff member will contact you as soon as possible if additional material or information is required.
