10.06.09
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today praised the Executive Order signed by President Obama that sets sustainability goals for Federal agencies and focuses on making improvements in their environmental, energy and economic performance. According to the White House, the Executive Order requires Federal agencies to set a 2020 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target within 90 days; increase energy efficiency; reduce fleet petroleum consumption; conserve water; reduce waste; support sustainable communities; and leverage Federal purchasing power to promote environmentally-responsible products and technologies.
"With this Executive Order, President Obama has called on Federal agencies to set a strong and clear example of responsible energy use. I am encouraged by this bold step and hope that other major energy consumers will follow behind - not only to preserve our planet, but to cut costs across the U.S. economy."
