Dodd, Lieberman Announce More Than $3.2 Million for Connecticut Courthouse Improvements

WASHINGTON -- Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced $3,297,000 in federal funding to update and improve Connecticut's Courthouses and Federal Buildings under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funding is part of a nationwide plan to convert Federal buildings and Courthouses into high-performing energy efficient "green" buildings.

"These funds will contribute to our economic recovery in the short term by creating jobs in Bridgeport, Hartford, and New Haven, while also helping to diminish our long term environmental impact," said Dodd. "Ensuring that public buildings like these courthouses are energy efficient will help the government cut costs, save taxpayer dollars, and provide important environmental innovation."

"This Recovery act funding provides an unprecedented opportunity to renovate, repair and update Connecticut's Courthouses and Federal Buildings while providing jobs that will help revive the economy in our state," said Senator Lieberman. "Making these vital public buildings energy efficient offers an example to the greater community that we can be committed to a clean energy future, while contributing to our nation's economic recovery."

The following buildings will receive federal stimulus funding:

• Brien McMahon US Courthouse, Bridgeport -- 211,000
• William R. Cotter Federal Building, Hartford -- 2,000,000
• New Haven Courthouse, New Haven -- 800,000
• Robert N Giaimo Federal Building, New Haven -- 286,000
