Lieberman Announces $3.8 Million for Bradley International
05.11.09
WASHINGTON — Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., announced on Friday that Bradley International Airport has been awarded $3.8 million for security equipment by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The funds were made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and are to be used for the purchase of updated explosive detection systems and advanced technology X-ray units.
"I am pleased the Department of Homeland Security has awarded this money to Bradley International," Lieberman said. "These funds will create jobs while simultaneously making Americans safer. I am excited that we will have the newest and most effective technology available in Connecticut."
The new equipment will replace older equipment, streamline baggage screening, and enhance security capabilities. Approximately 200 airports have the detection system, and approximately 770 advanced technology X-ray units are in place at airports nationwide. The equipment represents the first stimulus dollars spent under TSA's ARRA funds.
