Lieberman Announces More Than $7.5 Million for Lead Paint Removal
05.15.09
WASHINGTON - Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced the release of $7,579,126 to help eliminate dangerous lead-based paint from low-income homes and protect young children from lead poisoning in Connecticut. The funds were released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"I am pleased that funding was made available to Connecticut to help address the serious hazard of lead-based paint," said Senator Lieberman. "It is unacceptable that homes still contain this poison on their walls, doing serious, long-term damage to families, specifically the children. This Recovery Act money will go a long way towards helping to eliminate this dangerous paint from Connecticut homes and will help ensure that our children grow up in safe home environments."
Receiving the funds are the following cities and organizations:
• Connecticut Children's Medical Center $875,000
• City of New London $2,004,538
• City of Norwich $1,699,588
• City of Waterbury $3,000,000
