06.24.09
WASHINGTON, DC - Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced that they helped secure $3.35 million for environmental and conservation efforts throughout Connecticut as part of the Appropriations bill approved by the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies.
"This funding is important for safeguarding the Connecticut River watershed and the Long Island Sound so future generations can enjoy these natural treasures," said Dodd. "Clean water infrastructure improvements are needed throughout Connecticut and this funding in particular will help prevent water supply shortages in several communities and protect the quality of our waterways in eastern Connecticut."
"This bill is good news both for current and future generations in Connecticut," Lieberman said. "I am delighted that it includes funding for many projects that will preserve and protect our state's natural beauty, including the Stewart McKinney and Silvio Conte National Wildlife Refuges."
Below is a breakdown of the funds from which Connecticut stands to benefit:
• $2,000,000 for the Stewart McKinney National Wildlife Refuge
• $750,000 for the Silvio Conte National Wildlife Refuge
• $300,000 to the City of Norwich for improvements to its wastewater treatment facility
• $300,000 to the Town of East Lyme for water system improvements
