Dodd, Lieberman Announce Connecticut Funding in Interior Appropriations Bill
09.25.09
WASHINGTON, DC - Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced that they helped secure $3.35 million for environmental and conservation efforts throughout Connecticut as part of the Interior Appropriations bill approved by the full Senate last night.
"Connecticut's national wildlife refuges provide a home for hundreds of unique plants and animals. Preserving that habitat is key to ensuring that these treasures will be protected for many years to come," said Dodd. ""This bill also provides Norwich and East Lyme with the funding they need to upgrade their clean water infrastructure."
"The funding included in Interior Appropriations Bill will help protect the natural beauty of our state for generations," Lieberman said. "I am also pleased that Norwich and East Lyme will be receiving funding to upgrade their vital water treatment facilities to continue to protect the local environment and keep the local communities safe and healthy."
Below is a breakdown of the funds from which Connecticut stands to benefit:
• $2,000,000 for the Stewart McKinney National Wildlife Refuge
• $750,000 for the Silvio Conte National Wildlife Refuge
• $300,000 to the City of Norwich for improvements to its wastewater treatment facility
• $300,000 to the Town of East Lyme for water system improvements
