LIEBERMAN, COLLINS PRAISE HOUSE BILL TO REPEAL “DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL”

12.14.10

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Susan Collins (R-ME) issued the following statement regarding the decision by Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives to introduce a bill this week that would repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The House bill will be a companion to the stand-alone bill that Senators Lieberman and Collins introduced last week.

“Repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ should not be just a promise unkept – we must take bold action to get it done. This step by our colleagues in the House shows the broad and very real commitment to repealing the unjust law before the end of the year.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
