Rear Admiral Sandra Stosz will be the First Woman to Head Service Academy

WASHINGTON—Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Monday congratulated Rear Admiral Sandra Stosz on being named the next Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.  Stosz, who will assume her position next summer, will be the first woman to head one of the nation’s five military service academies.

“I want to offer my hearty congratulations to Rear Admiral Sandra Stosz for breaking the glass ceiling with her appointment to head the Coast Guard Academy,” said Lieberman. “RDML Stosz has a storied Coast Guard career.  Having done everything from leading the Coast Guard recruit training center to commanding an ice breaker on the Great Lakes, I have no doubt she will be a talented and effective leader at the academy. I expect she will set very high standards at the Academy and serve as an admired role model for female and male cadets alike.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
