LIEBERMAN STATEMENT ON TAX CUT VOTES

12.04.10

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) issued the following statement today following the two votes in the United States Senate on tax cuts:

“I voted against the tax extension proposals today because the simple truth is that there is not enough support for either the Democratic or Republican proposals.  Both parties need to come together to find a bipartisan solution that will provide a real way to allow the middle class tax cuts to be extended now.  I support the Administration's ongoing efforts to reach a bipartisan agreement to solve this pressing issue.

“Friday's disappointing employment numbers underscore the fact that we cannot afford to raise taxes on anybody while the economy continues to struggle to recover, but neither can our country's long-term fiscal health afford a permanent extension of the cuts for the wealthiest taxpayers.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
