WASHINGTON – Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced the release of $255,587 for energy assurance planning initiatives in Windham, CT.  These funds will help improve electricity reliability and energy security through improved planning in the event of emergency emergencies such as blackouts, severe weather, or possible terrorist attacks.  The funds were released by the Department of Energy as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“We must be prepared at the local level to respond to any threats to our energy security,” said Lieberman.  “These funds will go a long way toward helping the city of Windham respond to a variety of energy emergencies.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
