Lieberman Applauds Administration Decision to Sell Black Hawks to Taiwan

02.01.10

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (ID-CT) today applauded the decision by the Obama administration to sell sixty UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to Taiwan.  The helicopters, which are built by Sikorsky in Stratford, Connecticut, are valued at $3.1 billion and are part of a larger $6.392 billion package of defense articles that the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced today.

“I applaud the administration’s decision to sell these Black Hawk helicopters and other articles to Taiwan,” Lieberman said.  “Connecticut workers have always played a proud role in the arsenal of democracy, and this is the type of work for our allies and friends that helps to defend freedom worldwide.”

The Department of Defense release on this decision is available at:  http://www.dsca.mil/PressReleases/36-b/2010/Taiwan_09-03.pdf

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
