DODD, LIEBERMAN APPLAUD OVER $11 MILLION FOR AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS IN CONNECTICUT

04.01.10

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) and Chris Dodd (D-CT) today praised the release of over $11 million for improvements to three Connecticut airports.

Tweed-New Haven Airport will receive $3,671,818 for runway rehabilitation; the CT Department of Transportation will receive $4.85 million for both noise mitigation and land acquisition for residents of the Triangle Hills area of Middlebury near the Waterbury-Oxford Airport; and the CT Department of Transportation will receive an additional $2.5 million for noise mitigation measures for residences surrounding Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.

“These funds will ensure critical runway improvements at New Haven’s Tweed Airport and help alleviate noise for communities around Bradley and Waterbury-Oxford airports,” said Dodd. “These federal investments will not only improve the quality of life for many Connecticut families, they will help maintain the quality of airport operations we all depend on for safe travel.”

“Investing in our transportation infrastructure is important to restoring our economy and creating new jobs,” Lieberman said.  “These investments in Connecticut’s airports will both strengthen our economy and improve the quality of life for surrounding residents.”

The grants were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
