WASHINGTON – Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced the release of $75,000 for the City of Bridgeport as part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s commitment toward environmental justice.

The Connecticut Coalition for Environmental Justice was awarded a $25,000 grant to reduce asthma in Bridgeport; Groundwork Bridgeport was awarded a $25,000 grant to improve water quality in Long Island Sound; and the Bridgeport Board of Education was awarded $25,000 to pilot a paper recycling program at two local schools.

“These funds will improve public health and address key environmental concerns for Bridgeport and its residents.”  Lieberman said.  “I applaud the EPA’s commitment to environmental justice in Bridgeport and beyond.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
