LIEBERMAN HONORS DOROTHY HEIGHT

04.20.10

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today issued the following statement in memoriam of Civil Rights Leader Dorothy Height:

“America is a better place because Dorothy Height blazed a freedom path for those who suffered from discrimination.  For nearly a century, Dorothy Height fought to ensure that equal rights and equal opportunities were guaranteed for all Americans—regardless of race or gender, ethnicity or religion.  She lived her life for others and opened doors to equality and opportunity that millions of Americans have walked through.  Dorothy Height will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in our continued efforts to make the American dream possible for all Americans.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
