05.20.10

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID –CT) released the following statements tonight after President Barack Obama announced the nomination of Susan L. Carney for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

“I congratulate Susan Carney on her nomination to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals,” said Dodd. “Throughout her career, including as the current Deputy General Counsel at Yale University and as a former Associate General Counsel for the Peace Corps, she has demonstrated her strong commitment to the rule of law. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on a swift confirmation process.”

"Susan Carney is an excellent choice for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals,” said Lieberman. “Ms. Carney has had an impressive and wide ranging legal career with varied experiences which will serve her well on the Federal bench.  I congratulate Ms. Carney and will work to ensure that she is quickly confirmed so she can begin serving the people of Connecticut and the nation."

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
