LIEBERMAN HONORS STEPHEN PAPA

05.04.10

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today issued the following statement in memoriam of Stephen Papa:

“We have lost one of Connecticut’s finest citizens and I have lost a dear friend.  Steve Papa was a warm and wonderful man, boundless in his passion for life and in his dedication to the city of New Haven.  He inspired a commitment to collegiality even amidst the most heated of policy debates.  For nearly a century, Steve Papa lived a life of consequence in pursuit of the American dream and service to others.  Our state was blessed by his many gifts—in particular, by his ability to remind us that living one’s life is meant to be a joyous experience.  My condolences and prayers are with the entire Papa family.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
