LIEBERMAN ANNOUNCES $673,776 IN JOB TRAINING GRANTS FOR CONNECTICUT
06.25.10
WASHINGTON – Senator Lieberman today announced $673,776 in On-the-Job Training, National Emergency Grants for Connecticut which will deliver on-the-job training services for workers affected by layoffs. The grants are being released by the Department of Labor as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
On-the-Job Training Grants offer a method to jump start re-employment for dislocated workers experiencing prolonged unemployment by enabling employers to create training and job opportunities for these individuals. The projects will help workers become proficient in needed skills and may encourage employers to hire workers sooner than perhaps initially planned. Employers participating in these on-the-job training projects will receive partial reimbursement to offset the extraordinary cost of training workers. .
“The funds from the Recovery Act are important for our state to assist those who have been hard hit by the recession,” Lieberman said. “These projects will help displaced workers find gainful employment and incentivize employers to keep hiring.”
