LIEBERMAN ANNOUNCES OVER $2 MILLION FOR CONNECTICUT AIRPORTS

06.29.10

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced the awarding of over $2 million by the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements to Connecticut airports.

Bradley International will receive $1,372,892 to construct a new airfield lighting vault to support all runway lighting at the airport; Waterbury-Oxford and Hartford-Brainard will receive $232,428 and $354,343 respectively to acquire snow removal equipment; the State of Connecticut will receive $66,500 to conduct wildlife hazard assessments at two state-owned airports to reduce wildlife hazards to aircraft operations; and the state will receive an additional $190,000 to develop a business plan for general aviation airports and assist these airports in becoming more financially self-sufficient.

“These airports play a vital role in servicing both general and commercial aviation in Connecticut,” Lieberman said. “These important upgrades will improve aviation safety and contribute to a higher quality of life for Connecticut and its residents.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
