LIEBERMAN VOWS TO CONTINUE "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL" REPEAL FIGHT

09.21.10

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) today issued the following statement in reaction to the United States Senate’s failure to begin debate on the FY2011 National Defense Authorization Act, which includes a provision that would repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell:”

“I’m disappointed by the vote today, but make no mistake: this is a cause whose time has come. I remain confident that we will repeal this policy that is unjust and discriminatory and counter both to our national values and our national security. We didn’t win today, but we can win this fight this year.”

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
