Senator Lieberman Honors Our Heroes

"Many times in our nation's history, we have called upon our own citizens to serve in defense of our nation. More than 40 million have heeded the call in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Indian Wars, Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and most recently, Operation Iraqi Freedom. Both in and out of the theaters of war, more than one million of these soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country during these conflicts. Many have never returned. Others were changed, some physically, some emotionally, many both.

"The story of those who answer our nation's call during these wars is one of quiet courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty. It is the strength of these men and women in uniform, who continue to serve, whether they were at the battlefront or the homefront, that unite this nation. I extend a grateful appreciation to those who have served, and express my steadfast support to those who continue to serve with valor and courage. When we speak of heroes and role models, it is these men and women who truly deserve to be recognized.

"For the families and friends of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our nation so nobly, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Please do not hesitate to contact me or my Deputy State Director and Counsel, Laura Cahill, at 860-549-8463, if I may be of assistance."

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
