Sheridan Communication and Technology Middle School

Senator Lieberman congratulates Sheridan Communication & Technology Middle School of New Haven, who was one of only 50 schools nationwide to be named a NASA Explorer Schools (NES) in May 2003. Through the program, which is sponsored jointly by NASA and the National Science Teachers Association, the Sheridan Communication & Technology Middle School received a $10,000 federal grant and established a three-year learning partnership with NASA in an effort to integrate cutting-edge science and technology into its curriculum.

Each summer of the three-year partnership, teams of teachers and education administrators visit NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland to participate in an intensive weeklong training. The team will learn how to use NASA education tools and support to amplify Sheridan's current technology instruction and research for students in grades 4 - 9.

"In this era of burgeoning technological development, encouraging and training our young hi-tech leaders of tomorrow is especially important," Senator Lieberman said. "Ensuring that America remains the foremost nation in scientific and technological research and development is not only vital to our economy, but to our national security as well. With NASA’s help, Sheridan will be even better equipped to help Connecticut's students succeed."

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
