Thomas Pandolfi

Senator Lieberman recognized Thomas Pandolfi of Woodstock as a "Joe's Hero" for his service to his country and his unselfish and noble work on behalf of those serving in uniform, especially those in Connecticut's National Guard and Reserves and their families.

A former Army Special Forces Soldier with honorable and distinguished service in Vietnam, Mr. Pandolfi has worked as a volunteer with the Connecticut Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves since 2000, tirelessly advocating public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve. As a volunteer for ESGR, Mr. Pandolfi has provided free education, consultation, and mediation for employers of Connecticut servicemen and women.

Described by the Connecticut Committee of ESGR Chairman Lewis P. Vasquez as "a true Solder's soldier" for his "exemplary leadership," Thomas Pandolfi has been a key leader in assisting National Guard and Reservists who have mobilized since Sept. 11, 2001 by ensuring that ESGR is represented at all mobilization and demobilization events.

Mr. Pandolfi, whose son is a U.S. Army Ranger currently serving a second tour in Iraq, has also donated his time and money in the design and construction of a "Walk of Honor" as a tribute to Connecticut service members who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Consisting of stones engraved with the name, rank, and unit of the service member, Thomas Pandolfi has created a lasting monument to those who make the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Because of his dedication to his country and those who serve it, Mr. Pandolfi was awarded the James M. Roche Spirit of Volunteerism Award, the highest award given to ESGR volunteers.

"With National Guard Members and Reservists playing a more active role in our nation's military than ever before, employers have had to face the reality of a portion of their workforce spending greater amounts of time defending the country and maintaining their readiness," said Senator Lieberman. "While most have stepped up to the plate, volunteers such as Tom Pandolfi continue to educate these employers on the real benefits of hiring and supporting these patriots. Tom's genuine concern and support of our troops and their families is truly inspiring."

Senate Passes Postal Reform Bill

On April 25, the U.S. Senate Wednesday passed a strong, bipartisan postal reform bill to preserve the United States Postal Service (USPS) and put it on more solid financial ground for the future.  The 21st Century Postal Service Act (S.1789) was passed by a 62-37 vote.

“This legislation will change the USPS so it can stay alive throughout the 21st century to serve the people and businesses of this country," Lieberman said.
